  • RE-4 is a medical discharge and you can NOT join another branch of the military if you receive it.
  • Been there done that I got re4 myself and fought with it for years here is the scoop. No you cannot join ANY branch of the service with a RE 4 code. And you never will. That is just the fact, if they start recruiting penal battalions any time soon you might be able to get in one. You can always join the French Foreign Legion, Yeah it is that bad. No you cannot get it changed to another RE code. Forget it now, it just doesnt happen. Although there are people who will take your money to tell you that maybe you can, and govt employees who will give you the run around for months till you figure it out. RE4 is a red flag "we do not want you back ever". Usually if you got an RE4 you will know why. AWOL, Drug or Acholol problems, Personality issues, etc, etc. It is not a code you get when you have a happy enlistment. It gets worse that RE4 is gonna limit a lot of the high paying jobs you might otherwise qualify for later. It is not the same, but treated as the same as a felony conviction by lot of employers. And RE-3 is the code for medical issues not RE-4
  • re 4 is not a medical discharge it is bascially a behavioral issue discharge. i received a discharge with an re 4 code in 2004 for alcohol related and problem with authority issues and have been trying to get it appealed ever since. it is now 2008 and i still have not been able to appeal it and reenlist in any branch of the service and will not be able to for the rest of my life. dont be fooled by recruiters when they tell you it can be overturned because it cant. i have tried writing letters to the V.A as well as congress and they still will not overturn it.
  • Yeah! A Re4 code is just a way to keep us rabble rousers, who decide to say "up yours" out! There is nothing we can ever do to change it to that magic RE1! Our efforts our fruitless! We will never be able to re-up to that branch in the military that we hold so dearly to our hearts. So let us forget about it and move on and live our lives. Raise your children, pay your bills and try to fullfill a dream or goal you have other than the one to change that number! Face it, we screwed up and the military has standards and integrity that they cannot wane from!
  • re 4 is not a medical discharge i recived this code for having a pattern of misconduct one month ago from the navy while i was in meridian mississippi
  • Im pretty sure thats a resident evil 4 discharge. Which means you were attacked by zombies and are now turning into one, so they cant have you in the military anymore.
  • You Can Re-Join the Military. Not the Air Forcce, Nvay, or even the coast guard. But you can go in to the Army National Guard and then after doing and getting a good discharge, you can go active duty army. I know, I did it. I went into the Army national guard after I recieved a RE-4 from the navy. After I completed college I was commissioned as an officer in the army. I did have to under go a long wavier process, but it is possible, very hard to do, but possible. even as an officer, no matter if i save an entire battalion from a alien attack, eh navy will never take me back. Period! But, the army is the answer.
  • Please get your facts straight " Mrs.mezzo is a Wagnerian soprano". RE-3 is a discharge for TRUE medical problems and RE-4 is NOT. I know because I was discharged for having a medical disability after serving 15 years and I have an RE-3. Please call the veteran's affairs office or your local recruiter if you do not believe me.
  • An RE-4 code is a military code that cannot be overturned. I got one back in '04 for doing things i knew i didn't have any business doing. There were alot of things changing in my life. Things i couldn't deal being so young, so I acted out. I was set back for fraternizing. I tried to commit suicide twice I think. I would've rather come home dead than to be labeled as a failure. I know better now and the military is and will forever be in my heart. I just know that there is no way to get it overturned. People talk about the national guard and all that. I have no idea if that's true. I will research it and repost once I become clear on it.
  • Yea A RE-4 can be a medical discharge. I got one for having Psoriasis in the Navy. I am trying for active Army, if that doesn't work I will try the Guard.
  • First of all, RE 4 is NOT a discharge. It is a ReEntry code. This is for military use ONLY. It simply refers to your eligibility to serve in the United States military. This code is given for ANY REASON which would make you ineligible from MEDICAL to AGE to PATTERNS OF MISCONDUCT. Until March 15, 2009, you would have been able to join the Army National Guard with an RE 4 from any branch but the Army. But due to the flock of the recently unemployed joining the ranks, they are currently way over quota and can afford to be very selective. A civilian employer is not legally supposed to discriminate based on RE-codes. (In fact, in some states it is illegal to discriminate based on discharges). The military is a completely different way of life. Some people are not military material, or they get caught up in broken system and labeled as such. Do not let an RE 4 get you down. Take it for what it is--a code for military use. Since you are no longer associated with the military, forget about it. An avenue has been closed for you, but let that motivate you to do something else that's worthwhile. The military may not want you, but that doesn't mean you don't have a lot to offer someone else. You've only failed if you give up.
