  • It has been, in the form of affirmative action.
  • No... An apology for slavery? That was not US, but our ancestors. And I'm from a state, and believe I have relatives who were active in, the underground railroad. If ANYTHING, a simple resolution by congress, apologizing for our ancestors should be enough. And no... Nothing more than the apology in words. Let's put it this way... If blacks had NOT been brought here, even as slaves, they would have been brought up in Africa, where the vast majority are extremely poor. Here, while poor in relativity to many whites (NOTE: NOT ALL), they have a MUCH better chance of surviving, getting jobs, and a chance to become rich than they would have had they still been in Africa. (Sorry if this way of thinking ruffles some feathers, but think LOGICALLY about it.)
  • What else would you suggest?
  • if we had to make more than apologies to every group this country has wronged our debt would be 1000 times as big. from selling drugs to our own people, assassinating foreign leaders, starting revolutions, supporting violent coups, supporting dictators that kill their own people, et cetera. i still love my country, but i will not ignore the harm she has made.
  • Yeah. Maybe we should free them and give them the same rights as any other citizen. Oh wait! That's been done.   Let's try getting over the past and moving on with issues that are important to the modern world.
  • No. No one in this day and age had anything at all to do with enslaving blacks and, as far as I know, no blacks in this day and age have been enslaved. Slavery is reprehensible, but it is also a fact of history and did not only victimize blacks. There are still groups being victimized in one form or another. If a person hangs on to the wrongs done to their ancestors, they are wearing shackles of their own making. Their time and energy could be better spent doing something about what goes on in the present, instead of trying to get something out of what's over and done.
