Question

Help answer this question below.

I used ecstacy once about 2 months ago and have now been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. Could my use of ecstacy be related to this, or cause other problems even though I have only used the drug once?

Ecstacy is known to downregulate a specific neurotransmitter, serontonin which affects your mood and emotions.

There are actually a group of antidepressants called SSRI's or Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors which can regulate your serotonin. Serotonin is many times a culprit in mild to moderate depression.

I would be skeptical though about saying that the one time use of ecstacy caused your depression. The fact that you chose to use ecstacy in the first place would lead me believe that you were already depressed. Drugs are an escape right? It's something to think about...

The long term effects of taking ecstacy have yet to be realised, but, speaking from experience, the short term effects can be devestating, hopefully like me, you will be able to deal with these after effects which will gradually pass and you will come out of this a better and wiser person for it. Minus a few thousand brain cells of course...! Chin up!

I think the ecstacy use is a symptom of the anxiety and depression. Using once would not cause such dramatic effects. When we are depressed or anxious we seek to medicate our frustrations- thus the ecstacy use. If you are on any kind of antidepressant or antianxiety drug now do not use ecstacy again. Them days are over.

It could be related to that one time use, or it could have been existant already and exacerbated by the drug use. Ecstacy causes your brain to burn up seratonin (which helps regulate your mood), which can cause depression.

yes, it could possibly be because of the use of E..

This may not help you, but understand that what you feel is just an imbalance in chemical.. i understand how you feel, and i've taken myself out of what seems to be such a permanent funk, but you must fight it,

it's a mind over body thing, and i know its hard, i really do, If you believe in it, you will be sad.. Confront your feelings, understand and feel them out,

it's all in your head.. you need to live through it, and see it as a part of your past, don't let it consume you..

    Good luck,

From experience you probably feel anxious because exstacy mimicks the effects of your endorphins that make you feel good. Your brain now thinks it can only get pleasure from the drug. You must retrain yourself to enjoy life this will take time, but as long as you have a postive outlook you will be fine.

Ecstasy is not a drug to fool around with, cause hundreds of teens die a year by one ingestion. If they have diagnosed you, they can probably explain why this came on all the sudden.

This drug has unknown effects on the human body. many drugs, legal and illegal, have unknown effects on the human body.

    The real killer is meth.

Sometimes, it only takes one time for a lifetime.

Probably not. You may of went into a down after the ecstasy wore off, but that should last no longer then a day or 2. It takes some heavy heavy ecstasy use to give you permanent problems like depression. I'd suggest getting tested for ADD as well as depression. ADD is commonly misdiagnosed as just depression (depression being a symptom of ADD). If you are given only antidepressants and you have ADD, it can make the problem worse.
