    I'm the guy who sits around in the library during the winter, and the pool during the summer, talking to either himself or the lifegaurds.
    I think I'm not much, but I'll do for my own tastes, and when you have as few friends as I do, it's all that really matters.

    I think the question is, "Is there an 'us' and a 'they'? If so, what is the difference between the two?"

    I think I am "me" - an individual - because my sense of self and experience has led me to that conclusion. My daily experiences only reinforce that conclusion. From my perspective, I am solid, and a separate entity from those around me. I am different from chair, bed, cat, and "others."

    This belief started when I was very, very small...(likely when I noticed I don't feel someone touching the bed covers, but I feel it when they touch my skin...and also noticed that I couldn't control the bed covers but could control my hands and fingers).

    From a very "small" (again a relative term based upon my perspective) perspective, I am 99.9999% empty space and likely indistinguishable from what is around me (including air).

    From a very "large" perspective, I'm probably part of the solid mass that is the galaxy, universe, whatever...because that perspective won't recognize the "space" between the objects contained any more than I recognize the space between atomic particles.

    So, I think I am me...a separate and distinct individual. An important person who has ethics, morals, and feelings. That doesn't necessarily mean that what I think is true.

    Well I do declare! I think I am me and if I'm not me then that is a very sad story indeed for I have been going around telling people that I'm me, but if it turns out that I am not me then I can be called a liar. And I do not think of myself as a liar. But me might be a liar. Not sure about I yet. So, myself is not a liar, I doesn't know and me is definitely a liar.

    Great question. I once heard it put this way. "If you weren't born, someone else would have been. If you hadn't gone to school, someone else would have gotten your spot. If you didn't work where you work, someone else would have been hired." Who you are is what only you could have brought to each of these and many other roles. This really makes you dig down to your essence and reflect on ways you've expressed yourself and ways you still can share with the world. It reminds me of that song lyric: "You go where no one else can go. You know what no one else can know."

    p.s. A good litmus test for living in auto-pilot is when you fulfill the to do lists of each of your various roles, without personal expression or anything on your to do list for yourself. You are stuck in survival and never surfacing upward toward creation. Running to stand still.

    My mates and I were discussing this last night. My friend asked me who an author was. I realized what a strange question it was. I asked what he meant by it, if he meant her occupation? Her achievements? Her personality? My friends just kind of shrugged it off, but it got me thinking.

    It's a peculiar question, really.
    I guess the best answer I can think of comes from a U2 song, Miracle Drug.
