Kissing my first girl at the age of eight, she was seven, and her name was Shannon, she was the prettiest girl in school and will always remain in my heart. Ah...puppy love.

Too many too choose from! Ok, gotta play along... Laying on the grass watching the spring clouds, arguing with my sister about whether they're forming elephants or airplanes; Having the VW bus break down on a camping trip and being taken in by a family of farmers for the night; Making a raft from milk cartons and sailing across the lagoon on an August day; Smacking a double into right-center field and knowing that Mom caught it on her new 8-mm movie camera; Using a broomstick to chase away the dog that was biting my sister; Summertime lounging by the park pool with the stunning Robin Margrave, giving in to a broken heart in September. Can't seem to recall much in the smells department, though...

When were we young kids, during the Summer months, we loved it cause we could play outside after dinner. While we played we knew Mom was baking homemade cookies, and making Kool-Aid. I remember looking so forward to those treats, and loving the smell of the cookies. WOW life was so much easier then..

Learning to make tamales with my best friend Teresa, the smell of pork and red chile throughout the house, our two families aharing that time and playing board games, laughing all the while. Tamales always mean winter, laughter and fun to me.

I guess I was more of a "young man" by then (around 16), and we were still living on our farm. My Mom came in one very, very cold (around 15 degrees F) morning, (at about 4 a.m.), and told my little brother and I to get out to the hog barn ... one of our "sows" was having trouble with a litter! She had already been milking the cows! It was a school day, but she said to just make sure the sow was okay and stay home. We "helped" deliver 13 little piglets that morning, then fell asleep in the hay! We had some GREAT times (on the farm), even thru terrible weather, very hard work, and even the "well pump" going out (seemingly ONLY on the coldest nights of winter), forcing us to go out on the highway, to shower in the "grungy, grimy" truck stops! But, it was ALL worth it!

My Dad died recently and so I have been "remembering" a lot just lately. One of my best memories was of how my Dad would rush home from work when I was in high school. He would be trying to beat me home so he could turn all the stuffed animals on my bed upside down onto their heads. I would also rush home so I could pretend to be very annoyed, but inside I felt so pleased that my Dad loved me.
