How can I relieve my dogs itching? Have been to the Vet, Golden Retriever has itchy red spots all over. Was told, "probably allergies". I've given him anticeptic baths and sprays, allergy pills, Benadryl, Chlortrimeton. Somewhat relieves. Red paws hot

Unfortunately with dog allergies it's try and try again. There is testing available through your vet if you haven't tried that. That will help to pinpoint if its something that can be helped or not! I also have a Golden Retriever with bad allergies. We've done it all- steroids, sprays; few things work to relieve his discomfort. My vets, while not holistic, have been extremely helpful and very understanding. Perhaps a different vet is in order for you. In the meantime, I have spent many, many hours researching, making phone calls and asking around and this is what I am currently doing to help Eli and so far so good:

-Bath using cool water & hypoallergenic shampoo, following up with an organic spray made up of aloe, tea tree oil and chamomile and massaging this into his skin (leave on)

-Many GR breeders I have spoken to swear by raw diets. This is DEF one to research long and hard and ask around before jumping into it. My dog wont even touch dry food if I give it to him now-he loves the raw! Your dog could have a grain allergy in which case any and all processed dog foods could trigger him.

-Making sure your dog is getting immune boosters. If you continue to feed dry food, do your research on ingredients and look for the most wholesome, organic food possible. Also, check to see if the food is preserved w/ Vitamin C! I recommend Innova, as its just about as good as it gets for dry food in my opinion.

-We give our Golden Salmon Oil every night also. Dogs reap the same great benefits from fish oil that humans do!

-Benedryl every 8 hours to relieve severe symptoms (I give 50 mg to my golden who weighs about 75lbs, but most vets from what i know say 1mg/lb of dog is fine)
-Keeping my dog cool is also hugely beneficial as his symptoms are noticeably worse on hot days. We get alerts sent to our phones letting us know if our area has an air quality warning, in which case Eli skips daycare for the day and stays in an air conditioned room.
-EarthBath makes great ear and eye wipes which we keep on hand for easy cleaning of he starts to scratch or get watery. (and many other great products- www.Earthbath.com)

Hopefully some of this helps. All I can say is to RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH! You wouldn't believe how many articles i read, places I went, people I spoke with when I started this and I'm still looking for answers :(

My dog has the same issue...Cold baths when you do bath him/her. Your vet can give you meds for the pain but you can also use baby tylonal. There isn't much you can do but do all you can to help him/her be comfortable. Lots of love goes a long way.
