Bottom line, not in any order.

Multiple frequencies and channels I recomend an "FM" format.
Large Bandwidth, up to 12,000hz more is always better.
Are the Battery's easilly replacable and how long will they run on a charge, how long does it take to charge them? I would look for a unit that takes rechargable lithium or medal hydrides battery's found at any Radio Shack.
Low distortion and signal to noise ratio.
This is a personal one for me, How big is the freakin transmitter?
A real important one is how many transmitters will the reciever take at the same time. Think down the road on this one. I would buy the biggest reciever I can afford without sacrificing any of the other variables. As for a brand to get or one to avoid, if you stay in the higher end of the price range $150.00 or more, I don't think there's a bad one in the bunch. If you've never been to any of the guitar "dot.com's" please do. Look for something with the features you want and if it recieved a good rating from the people who bought it. Also, check out the Maufacturers web site. Very often the will have a "support" link and "discussion" groups. Look to see if the model you are considering has had a lot of
negative activity. If yes, then I'de keep shopping.
Look at Musiciansfried.com or Music123.com. Basically search for guitars and parts, there's a ton of .coms out there. Hey good luck!
