If the history books are anything to go by - because she had conviction, a sense of duty, passion and charisma.

She wasn't too hardline on religion, allowing a greater stability to develop rather than tearing the country apart. She created a cult of herself which strengthemed the monarchy She refused to marry - and if she had married, it would have had to have been to a European royal, who would have a)taken precedent over her as a man and b)brought their own interests into the equation, with England's down the list - she always put her country first. She seems to have been an expert at diplomacy, playing people of against each other while never antogonising anyone too much She didn't completely empty the coffers on useless wars followed by heavy taxation
