Question

Help answer this question below.

My 2001 Ford Ranger ABS system intermittently activates when I stop on dry pavement. When this occurs, the OBDII scan tool goes blank and and no codes are recorded. My mechanic suspects a voltage spike. Any ideas?

    A couple of things come to mind,
    A. you could have a wheel speed sensor that is not reading correctly all the time. it isn't going open or shorted therefore you will not have any codes, it is simply irratic at times. And its variation is just enough to set off an abs event. If I had to lay money on it this would be my bet. The only way to find this is to monitor the wheel speed sensors while driving and note their readings when the abs event happens. Or take a snaphot with a scan tool if it has the capability this way you can find a faulty wheel speed sensor. here is a sample reading that would cause an abs event.
    RF = 12 LF = 7
    Rear = 12 or RR = 12 LR = 12 Whichever it may read. Notice the LF sensor is reading 7 Mph this would cause an abs event.
    B. Though not likely the Electronic Brake Control Module could be faulty. ( EBCM)
