What causes an old tattoo (10 years old) to occasionally get raised and itchy?

That's unusual. You may want to see a dermatologist, and ask your artist what materials were in the ink. It's possible you've developed a sensitivity to the ink, even though it's been with you a long time. Do you notice it doing it at certain times, or after you use certain products?

Does it just happen when you are pregnant? Pregnancy does odd things to people, maybe its a pregnancy related thing? I could be very wrong of course!
