ok the song is about a guy that gets a call late at night from a old girlfriend. They broke up because they just fought alot but they still loved each other. He is listening to her talk which is making him think of her while his new girlfriend is in the other room. If the new girlfriend found out he was talking to her then they would start fighting but he don't what to hang-up the phone. Maybe he might say something or do something to hurt is new girlfriend that is why it is hard to be faithful Atleast thats what i get out of the song

The "lips of an angel" refers to the girl calling him, not his girlfriend, In fact he also says he wished she (his girlfriend) was you. The lips of the angel on the phone makes it hard for him to be faithfull to his girlffriend.
