We all have fears and phobias, but it is worse when we are teased about them. You have 2 choices..#1 "sticks and stones" comes to mind. Let them kid around and as long as you can handle some teasing and not over react, they will stop. #2..Face the fear, and have someone walk you through the procedure of getting a shot or something like that and eventually it will no longer be a phobia

Talking to yourself about fear doesn't work very well. It just piles more thoughts on top of the fearful thoughts. What does work is to "open yourself up" to the fear. Fear is thoughts and body sensations intertwined. Tension in the stomach, tightening muscles, thoughts about losing control, about not being able to handle something, about anticipating pain, etc. Because we "shrink away" from fear, we make ourselves smaller. We don't see that the shrinking away actually reinforces the fear -- makes it more real, more scary. Most people try to steel themselves or insulate themselves from fear by filling their mind with competing thoughts: they think about something else, or try to inject compensating thoughts in some way. All of this is just more avoidance, it doesn't lead anywhere near mastery. To master fear, you have to allow it all the way in: to be afraid, and fully aware of the fear, to fully experience the fear. When you do that, the mind "merges" with the fear and it begins to shift and change in new ways. You find that you can actually be afraid and still function with a clear head. That's the beginning of wisdom with regard to fear. This is actually the key to handling all negative emotions; it rarely gets discovered because we're so busy running in the opposite direction we never stop to really study the feelings and thoughts we're running from.

You can try graduated exposure. First, look at a needle in its wrapper. After a while, your fear will decrease, since the body can't sustain that level of adrenaline for long. Once you're comfortable with that, remove the wrapper. Then maybe open up an alcohol pad so you can smell it. On and on, until you're so used to all parts of the experience that you aren't worried anymore. Good luck!
