You can pretty much do whatever you like on a resume. You can make the whole thing up if you so choose, but you may get caught.

I think it would be great if you put volunteer services on your resume. It may not show that you were actually getting paid, but it will at least show the employer that you not only were trying to keep busy, but you also had a heart big enough to volunteer and help people out at no charge. I'm over Human Resources Dept. at my job (JP Morgan Chase)..and we look at things like that. Good Luck!
