Question

Help answer this question below.

I changed my pills six months ago. In the last month I've skipped one pill, then doubled-up the next day. But I haven't had my period for two months. I took two at-home pregnancy tests and both came up negative, but could I still be pregnant?

Yes you could. An ectopic pregnancy isn't usually detectable on a normal test because the pregnancy hormone isn't present or isn't present in a great enough amount to be detected. I'd recommend stopping the pill (and abstaining from sex for the time being) and seeing if your period will come on it's own (which will usually happen within several days). If it doesn't, then you need to check with your doctor. They can perform a blood test or an ultrasound to check for an ectopic pregnancy or they can give you a pill to bring your period on.

IT'S NOT a good idea if you double up on your pill. It's only ok if you remember within a few hours of forgeting (about 6 hours). If it's longer you are going to doubledose which is not safe for your body. It's dangerous and it irresponsible of others to tell you it's ok to. If you miss one, you will have to take other precautions for about a week if you don't want to get pregnant. You should discuss the effects of the pill with your doctor. I'm taking one that doesn't really give me a period at all, I may get a spot here and there. but I can't remember when I had a real period. I'm taking this certain one because I am breastfeeding and it's safe to use. Each pill is different so check with your doctor, it doesn't mean you are pregnant.

I think it is very unlikely that you are pregnant. Some pills will cause very light or no periods at all. It is not a serious problem if it is just the pill you're taking. Call the doctor's office and talk to the nurse just to be sure but I don't think you have anything to be concerned with.

It is OKAY to double up on your pill if you forgot to take it. It's right there in the directions: Take your (missed) pill as soon as you remember, and then take the one for the day as usual.

As for not getting your period in 2 months, I think you should call your doctor. I doubt you would get pregnant from missing just one pill, but you never know. If you still didn't get your period, see your doctor. There are many reasons, aside from pregnancy that you could have a missed period.

it is not a good idea to double up medication, even if one day is skipped. Thismis because the dosage is produced according to how the body metabolises it and excretes it. If you double up, you are giving the body twice the usual amount, which can saturate the liver enzymes that metabolise it and can take more than twice as long to remove, as well as potetially being toxic. that said, the pill should be OK as it is basically human hormones anyway, but even these in excessive amounts can be harmful.

There are many reasons why your period may stop. The body is in hormonal balance and altering that balance by using the pill(a bundle of hormones) can result in amenhorrea (lack of period). Until your body adjusts there may be this apparent problem. It was a wise decision to perform multiple pregnancy tests, as if you went to the doctor they would start with this as well. However two negatives are fairly conclusive. The tests are very accurate, however I would do a couple in a few weeks time juts in case your levels of HcG (that the test detects) haven't reached the detection level yet. In the m,eantime, go and see your family doctor. It is possible, though very unlikely that you could be pregnant. I wo9uld wager my money on some other cause. Without knowing more details it is hard to give a definitive answer but lack of periods cold indicate many things, including change of medication, excessive weight loss, too much prolactin from a variety of causes (some easy to treat, some more serious), ovarian cysts and a truckload of others.

I wouldn't want you to be too worried as most are fairly simple to treat (though a definitive diagnosis may take some time). But get a doctor to check as they know your past medical history which may hev some relevance, and can do blood tests and so on the check exactly what is the matter. Hope this helps.
