Which is better, a Nikon 55-200 or a Tamron 55-200?

Generally a Nikon is a better camera. But on the question of which to get that is just a matter of personal opinion. I own a Nikon and I love it!

It depends on how you are defining "better." If you mean, which will provide you with a better picture, I would have to go with the Nikon. The Nikon lens has Nikkor optics, which are precision ground and will just provide a better, sharper image. On the other hand, a Tamron lens is completely serviceable for most applications at about a third of the price of the Nikon lens. If you are defining better with your wallet, Tamron wins. Unless you are a professional photographer, or have plans of becoming a professional, the Tamron lens is probably a fine choice.
