Just set up an account on your xbox 360 using the prompts on the dashboard. This will give you an xbox live silver account. This is a completely free account used to get free stuff (occasional free games, downloadable content, game demos or hd movie trailers). If this isn't enough you can buy gold cards which will upgrade your account to gold status for a limited time (30 days, six months or one year). Most games that are on-line multiplayer capable have a card to give you a gold account for 48 hours included with the game. Presumably you will be so hooked, you will rush out and buy a year long account. Hope this helps.
