all objects reflect light, and the color of the light they reflect is the color that we see. the rest of the light (in every other color) is absorbed into the object as heat. a rose's red petals will reflect the red wavelength of light, so if you shine a red light on it, most of the light will be reflected. a green leaf, on the other hand, will absorb most of the light and reflect the green wavelengths. the light from the sun is also an array of colors, with heavy emphasis towards the lighter colors, like white. if you wear light colored clothing, the sunlight will be reflected more. dark colored clothing will absorb more light and be hotter.
