Pick up the red phone that says 'emergency' and call Mother Nature & tell her you need a break.

You can't stop it. Contrary to what others may think.
You did not mention cramping, you mentioned slowing it down for whatever reason. DO NOT.
Let your body do what it is supposed to do and get through it. It is natural. Stopping it is not.

Tampons are a popular form to control the bleeding when it comes out but they are not healthy. They allow residual blood to remain in there instead of cleansing out.
Amusement parks/roller coasters do NOT slow it down. Trust me I know. I go to Cypress Gardens every month and many times during my rag time.
It does not slow down when following its NORMAL cycle of flow. I saw that typed and maybe someone had a slow moment but trust me you can gush while on a roller coaster =)

Some forms of birth control give you minimal periods .... how this is healthy I have no clue but a lot of women have turned to them.
In many years to come we will probably hear the effects of those choices.
We have our heavy days and light days. That is life.
Showers or baths may stop the flow for a bit but not long.
Remember each woman's body is different and what may work for some, may not work for others.

Taking pills or aspirins is not a good idea, period. No pun intended.
Ibuprofen is good because it is not a blood thinner and it can slow the flow but if you are looking for sexual relations as a reasoning for this.. well hun you will get him in there and he will plumb it out of you anyhow. Messy stuff and menstrual blood is waste so .. play in it if you want to.

Those that basically said "you can't" are telling you the most healthy and honest answer in stopping your period.

    You can't.
You can however arrange to skip a period if you're on the contraceptive pill by skipping the seven day break or the seven inactive pills and going directly to the nest active pill. Not a good idea to do it on a constant basis, but every now and then will do you no harm (I checked this with a doctor). I used to do a fair bit when I was modelling to avoid bizarre little "mouse tails" in pics!

If you ask your health care provider they will tell you there is no reason you should have to have a period every month. That is why they have seasonal pills and shots that stop your flow for long periods of time. What may work and not always is if you take two of your "active" birth control pills. The doctor has told me this is okay and it WILL NOT hurt you. Don't worry about nature taking its course you can't harm yourself from stopping it. Have fun with whatever the reason is you want to stop.:)

Let me state first and foremost that I totally agree that you cannot stop your period and if you tried it would be very unhealthy but as you said "snooch", everyone is different which is why I've put a few suggestions that may work for some individuals not to stop it completely but to try and make their cycle at bit easier to manage if not at all completely, at least momentarily.

Second, maybe for you roller coasters do not work but for me it does work as I've mentioned before until im not doing any activities. It sounds like to me you are one who bleeds heavy regardless of what you do. I could be wrong and not here to bash you, I just wanted to share some techniques with those who might find it useful and/or add on to comments that could add some sort of assistance to others.

Last and not least, if this topic is something in which any individual reading this would really like to know more about, then the best advice sometimes is to ask your family and friends. Because the point of this topic is to provide a positive advice as best as possible and not downgrade others POV.

So people, just ask your friends and family (If that's the case)!

Some advices on here are ok, others are completey off track. To make your cycle a bit easier to deal with, here are a few solutions:

    1. Never drink alcohol when you're about to get your period or on it. It agitates it way beyond the normal cramping, and can make you have a constipated feeling in some cases. Usually alcoholics suggest this method.

    2. Someone had it right when they wrote take a shower. However, I would recommend warm to cool water. It eases the pain for a little while and hot water can sometimes intensify the pain. Yes, as women our body's are that sensitive. But if hot water works for you, then by all means, go for it.

    3. When taking asprin/ibuprofin, they say you should alternate medicines when taking them. For example, if you take Advil every 4-6 hrs for the pain, your body will become somewhat immune. But if you took Advil and then switched to Motrin the next time you are suppose to take you're next pill, then your body won't become so to say "stubborn".

    4. Taking the pills as someone said can slow down your period a bit, make flow lighter, and at times completely rid you of your cramps. The downside is that you may gain more weight and hold more water mass than usual.

    5. Some women don't know it but dreading going to the theme parks on your cycle is not a bad idea. The force of the roller coasters will actually slow it down by probably 75% and/or in some cases like mines, will stop it momentarily until later that day when I'm not doing any activities.

    6. If you use tampons, when it's removed it will slow it down a bit, but be cautious and not use it when cramping because it can make it worse.

    7. Misc Advice: Sometimes when cramping just lay on your back and place a soft and/or firm pillow over your stomach for a little while.

    8. If some of these things do not help, then my advice is for you to schedule an appointment with your doctor immediately because it could be a sign of a bigger problem that was overlooked or just occurred.

    9. Good ole' fashion exercise, the more active you are the lesser the flow.

P.S. If you want to skip your period, you're putting your health at risk by doing so, but if it's your choice, they have seasonal which allows you to get your period only 4 times a year or do it the old fashion way and be a gymnist (lol).

It's human nature and its said that those who have steady periods is a sign of good health. Also, it prepares the body for embryos that might develop in the uterus. That's life!

    Yes, actually ... you can.

Taking ibuprofen (Advil) will slow it down ... not sure about Aleve or Tylenol. My ob/gyn gave me this advice.

    I found this:

What can I do for very heavy flow?
    Take ibuprofen
Whenever flow is heavy, start taking ibuprofen, the over-the-counter anti-prostaglandin, in a dose of one 200mg tablet every 4-6 hours while you are awake. This therapy decreases flow by 25-30% and will also help with menstrual cycle-like cramps (7).

I don't recommend it, but I've read that alcohol can lessen bleeding on periods for some women.
Sometimes a hot shower will make mine "pause" for a few hours...

What do you plan on doing for a few hours that your menstrual flow will interfer with? Pop in a tampon and hope for the best. Don't you know that expression "Go with the flow"?

Just wanted to drop a line and say that the ibuprofen absolutely works. I was at my ropes end when I came across this article. I have found that depending on the cramping I usually take between 2 & 4 gel caps of Advil. Hope it helps you too!!!

Regular crunches for cramps and Apple cider vinegar (1 tablespoon),honey(1 tablespoon), and one coffee mug of water mixed together. This is my new remedy for my cycle. Hopefully this will be a good solution since over the counter pain killers can be really hard on the body. I am all about natural so if there is another good natural cure I am all for it but so far this one seems to be working. God bless everyone!

It may be gross but if you're only concerned about a few hours you can take a bath. Water ususally slows down the flow for me..but I must admit I've never actually taken a bath while menstruating..I've found other ways to use water.

Motrin or Ibuprofin. I can't say how many milligrams exactly but I myself take two prescribed 600 mg Motrin. It does work to slow it down. I get heavy periods that control my life because I can't do ANYTHING and especially the first two days. I take the Motrin for now and in a couple of weeks I am getting the Oblation surgery down which stops it completely for some and makes it light for others. I can't wait!

DDAVP if you have Von Willebrands disease. a blood clotting disorder that must be diagnosed by u'r doctor first. Trust me, i hope it's not that. google it.

otherwise, DON'T take anything with aspirin . aspirin is a blood thinner used to prevent clots. think about it.

tylenol helps me.. both for cramps and slows it down a bit...but it could be psychological. . good luck!
