A rough estimate for an object at the Earth's surface is 7 miles/second (11km/s). Initial velocity will be lower with higher altitude. (I assume "brake" ought to be "break" as in "break free of") Also, an object is theoretically never "free" of earths gravity, but it can be distant enough to be insignificant and or moving fast enough away never to fall back.
