Well, it IS a celebration of all that is Québecois, no? So I think there must be loads of local talent that could entertain AND support the theme as well. Now if they picked an artist from France vs. Britain, I'd say that's being a language-ist if there is such a thing, and anti-British. Do they really need a "big draw" for the event?

I believe the Québécois are getting angry because they are not being listened to. McCartney is a Sir and that must hit them in the eye. Being an anniversary of the French province it would be nice to have them listen to French music and interpreters after all it is their anniversary. Mind you they are having the Flag of Québec placed in every site where flags are shown. Regards.

It is NOT the 400th anniversary of the province of Quebec ... it is the 400th anniversary of the CITY of Quebec ... I have many mixed feelings about this ... on the one hand, this city was the first major European settlement in North America (not counting the Vikings, because they abandoned their settlements) and was the base of operations for the exploration and development of what we have now in North America ... as such, I feel that there should be some representation from both France & Britain as well as a minor representation from both Spain & Portugal ... and the French did loose to the British on the Plains of Abraham, which is now Canadian federal land, and is where the Sir Paul concert will be held ... so I feel they should allow it. ... but on the other hand, it is also a celebration of the survival of the French language and the Quebecois culture ... despite having lost the war to the British, they were allowed to keep French Catholicism rather than being forced to convert to Anglicanism ... they were allowed to keep the French language as their primary language with English as a second language rather than being forced to convert to English only ... and they were allowed to keep the French foundation for their set of society laws rather than being forced to convert to British law ... as such, it is this survival of French culture that is being celebrated and a British star is just not fully appropriate. In any event, I can see both sides of this argument and as I weigh it, the objections are just not significant enough ... the French should be thankful for the generosity of the British King that granted the Quebecois their culture after their military defeat, and they should welcome Sir Paul's FREE concert as a token of that generosity.
