  • probably a solenoid, they store the charge so it was probably released when the battery cable hit metal.. if its not holding a charge you battery could be dead, or the alternato could be dying....
  • Could be a Solenoid, but they DON'T "Store" "Power/Energy", they "Transfer" the VERY HIGH AMPERAGE POWER" of the Battery to the "Starter" which needs several Hundred Amps to turn over an engine & even more for a Diesel Engine that is why 2 Batteries are needed. Draw a picture or use a camera to copy the wiring of the 2 Batteries. Then take it off & have the Batteries serviced (clean terminals, add water)& Charged for "Load Testing". If the Batteries show Good, replace the Wires after Thoroughly Cleaning them or Replacing them as needed. Now have the Solenoid checked for "Damage" & Replace if needed. Start the engine & have it "Load Tested" at a shop or Auto Zone/Checker for Free! Not a Mechanic??? B uy a Manual for Ur truck & READ before U get into trouble!!! It's not "Rocket Science yet, but without a "Manual" U may think so. Take the Manual out & compare the truck to Pix BEFORE mistakes are made if Ur unsure about something. John
