  • On board computer may need to be reset using a code reader. Most auto parts stores will check your car's codes for free. You may also try disconnecting the negative battery cable for about 15 minutes. This will sometimes reset corrected error codes. Edit: And a special thanks to the coward who rated this down. Anytime you wanna compare automobile knowledge and ASE certifications, you just let me know.
  • Thermostat may be stuck. if so, replace.
  • Try checking the hose connections. I have a pontiac grand prix and was having the same problem with my low coolant warning light constantly staying on. I checked all the connections and found the overflow hose where it is connected to the radiator was not tight. I tightened the hose and have not had any problem with the warning light since.
  • i believe there is a sensor on the side of the radiator. check it.
  • I am a GM line tech. The problem is your low coolant sensor is Stuck if you have a plastic res. that you add the coolant to by removing the cap the low coolant sensor is in the bottom of it. Sometimes all you have to do is thump the resivour with a rubber hammer( Sorry for the bad spelling) a couple of times and that should free it up.
  • I agree with the GM lin tech. The sensor is stuck if you just tap on the bottle it will unstick the sensor and the light will go out. Ive done it at least 50 times and it works most of the time
  • The low coolant sensor in the coolant over-flow bottle is most likely the cause. The GM tech is correct in saying it is probably just stuck, however for it to get stuck in the low coolant position the coolant bottle has to first, be low. Make sure the bottle is filled to the correct level and try tapping the sensor, cylcling the key may be necessary to recheck. If the coolant level goes low again, suspect a coolant leak. Pressuring the system to check for leaks may be necessary.
  • Have your water pump checked. It sounds like it could be a waterpump leak. Just one thought.
