  • The best way to shoot depends on your physical strength. Children are usually taught a "2-hand push" shot, in which they hold the ball evenly in both hands and push it up from their chest. This allows them to get more range with reasonable accuracy and less strength than an adult male. Some adult women shoot this way also, most adult or teenage males abandon this method though. The "standard" method for a man or teenage male is to place the dominant hand (right hand if you're right-handed) under the ball, the left hand gently on the side of the ball, and "flip" the ball using the wrist and elbow. This puts a backwards spin on the ball and ensures that the right hand fingertips are the last thing the ball sees as it leaves the hand. The fingertips perform any delicate last-second corrections needed. There are lots of other details, like how to lift with your legs, squaring up your feet and shoulders, etc. But the hand position, wrist, and fingertips are the most important part. EDIT ========================== JonahFalcon: I suspect you're approaching the age where most boys would switch from two-hand push to one-hand, so practice is probably the answer to your problem. Lots of it. The muscles associated with shooting one-handed will build up just like any other muscles that get a lot of use.
