How was the Berlin Wall connected to Soviet Communism?

    After WWII, Germany was divided into two portions, West Germany and East Germany. East Germany was administered by Russia/Soviet Union. The Berlin wall seperated Eastern and Western Germany. Until the 1960's, Germans could freely pass through it. On August 12-13, 1961, Russia decided to close the border; thus, separating Eastern and Western Germany.

    I would say the wall is a symbol of the entire Cold War, rather than just of the Soviets.
