I never look anything up..so I guess I'm my own answer type of person. I think looking things up is like cheating on a test..you either know it or you don't..you don't look it up and then pass it off as if you knew it all along. Just my opinion, of course! :)

I usually answer on my own, but occasionally I'll look up something that seems interesting on Google or Wikipedia.

    Both.
In factual questions there is nothing wrong in my mind with researching and providing an answer with some sources for credibility.
I never claimed to know everything so when I do provide answers from other site I always cite the source.

If I don't know the answer or have an opinion, I don't answer.

Definitely an "own answer" type. I couldn't possibly find most of the answers I give anyway.

I give out my own answers. I think that researching the answer is a bit of waste of time.

I give my own answers, but will do research for questions that I am personally interested in the answer of. I won't typically copy and paste from the source unless that's specifically what the person is asking for (song lyrics, full quotation, etc.), but will make the answer my own in some sense.

One example of me researching an issue is here: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/3463988

I had read a news article before reading this question about the anniversary of the duel, and looked up some extra facts to sprinkle in the answer.

I believe that the objective of a question is to receive an answer. To me, the answer is paramount and I will do whatever necessary to get it. Not everyone has same researching skills online and when someone asks for help, I assume that they are serious. So my answer is "both."

    Predominately my own answers.

If it is a knowledge based question and I do not think I am sure of my facts I will research and cite my source.
