Help answer this question below.
I think changing the ATF is a good idea especially if you put many miles on the car. I would say change it every 30,000 miles or 2 years whichever comes first. I may be a little on the "over-protective" side but this will prolong the AT life considerably.
It can be expensive but it's worth the cost and do it at a mechanic's you trust. I would love to be able to do it myself but I have not been able to find step by step instructions online. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. I have a Mazda Protege5 2002.
Thanks
Do service your trans, I am a mechanic and I can tell you now that that person didn't know what the hell they were talking about. The only way it will make your trans slip is if you put a lower grade oil in it. You should do a full trans service though not just oil. i.e. gasket oil and kit. Good luck

Hi, I'm needing some help with my 99 mazda protege. The headlights seem to work whenever it feels like it (low beams) so I have to constantly use my high beams. What could be the problem and is it expensive to fix?? I'm tired of pissing everyone off!

You're reading I have a 2003 Mazda Protege 5. I was going to change the transmission fluid at 80,000 miles, but a mechanic told me that since it's never been done before this may cause slipping afterwards. Should I forget it?
