Yes!! Tax the crap out of it!

Only if U.S. Annexed Mexico Otherwise it would be a major import and you would have frieght, import and possibly luxury taxes on it...

I think it could make it SAFER - standardized blends, no fear of it being "laced" with anything, it would give the tobacco industry something to sell that may be a BIT more safe, sold and taxed like liquor and beer, laws about age limits, giving it to minors, driving intoxicated/high amended to handle that situation... The tax on the sales of legal joints or blunts, or loose marijuana for baking, could be quite high, and COULD help... BUT, it would take a concerted effort to get laws canceled or changed across the US, retooling of cigarette-making equipment, etc. AND, we would need some way to protect the children in households where the parents smoke or eat it (contact highs, eating laced brownies/cookies, etc.)

Yes the taxes would be nice, but half the country sitting at home saying duuuude over and over again and not going to work isn't going to help much. That was a joke. Some people would be like that, but not half the country by any means. It could cause money problems with individual people ie: high doctor messing up surgery, but I think the economy would benefit from the taxes.

Most definatley. hundreds of billions of dollars have been wasted on a Drug War that we're losing. Mainly because of all the illegal drug smuggling done by our own government and distributing it in the streets. . Alcohol prohibition didn't work. What makes people think marijuana prohibition would be a good idea??? . 80% of the prison population are non-violent drug offenders! Let's be conservative and say its only 50%. That's still 50% of our taxes spend on prisons saved right there. MOst of the people I have ever known have only committed one crime -- smoking pot. Society would almost be crime free if it were legal and cops were actually spending time catching REAL criminals raping, murdering, robbing ect. . If they replaced the income tax with marijuana tax, we'd have more than enough LEGAL money to spend on the illegal wars we get ourselves into and waste the money on. . If Marijuana were legal and regulated much like the government regulates alcohol (which is a much more deadly substance btw) we would see a drastic decrease in the use of Meth, crack, and heroine. These are all drugs people can cook up in their kitchens and garages from products bought at convenient stores and grocery stores -- they are the Moonshines of the Alcohol Prohibition era.

Yes, the war on drugs can finally confront cocaine and Heroine and real hardcore patriotic potheads would join the cause since they don't believe in hard drugs either. It's such a solid move since we all know that cocaine and heroine are the real evils that beset America and that you never hear of ODing from weed, not that I condone smoking it since it is way worse for your lungs than tobacco, hence the brownie idea

it would benefit the people in productive and non government positions!
