  • Interesting question, and a good one as well. I live in my motorhome, and it is the only home I have right now, and is by choice and not necessity. There many that have nothing else due to whatever circumstance, but not a rough as having to be placed into a shelter, or out on the streets. Yes, one needs an address for all the legalities of life, as well as to receive correspondence, packages, and census info. All one has to do is acquire a PMB or Personal Mail Box, and not to be confused with a P.O. Box or Post Office Box. One cant use a P.O. Box due to it not being an address, as its only a box, where as a PMB is. For Instance, The UPS Store has boxes one can utilize for anything due to the fact that they obtain a viable street address for their business, and your box is given as a suite number as if it were an office or apartment listing. I have 5 across the country, and they allow me to plan ahead to what region of the country I am next to travel, and thus have any mail from both friends and affairs go there, and so on. As to school for the kids, well it will have to be home schooling, or have a PMB with-in a district they can walk to, or be dropped off at. There are many places one can drop anchor without charge, and it they plan to be in an area for while, due to the need of schooling, they can rotate various locations during the week at places like the far end of a Wal-Mart parking lot, as well as most travel plazas like PETRO, Flying J, and PILOT. If one doesn’t supplant themselves too many days in a row as mentioned to rotate, then one can make do during travel, or hard times with very little necessary means. I hope this helps, PEACE!
  • Your domicle needs an address and if you use one of those mail forwarding service addresses, let's say in South Dakota, have a SD driver's license and insurance and have your bank in SD and have registered to vote in SD, then I don't think the IRS or any other state could argue that your legal domicle is X-city,SD. The problem occurs, if you own property in another state, have a different driver's license and bank in a different state, joined a Church or Synagogue in a different state, then a court could nullify your claimed residence in a low tax state and hit you with taxes ,penalties and even criminal charges for willfully defrauding them out of taxes on your big lottery winnings. It all hinges on what the court decides is your "intent" in claiming a residence- should it ever come down to that. I had this problem over 20 years ago after our home burned down and we became fulltime RV'ers. However, as soon as I took a job in Florida, then that became my domicle as Florida law mandated I license and insure my vehicles within 30 days of staring work.
  • I use a mailbox group which will forward my mail anywhere in the US. I also pulled off a stunt which you'll appreciate. I'm single, so not much is needed. Ever see one of those 26' dry vans or "Courier" vans like UPS and others? Well, I got one and converted it. I have a small generator (Runs 3 hours one gallon of gas, rechargeable batteries (For TV and appliances which use very little electricity) and a small water heater. It's a nifty setup (Toilet too) and the crazy thing? It's a white van. Now why would I do that? Very simple. You drive through a warehouse complex and see it parked, the first thing comes to you is "Oh, that's their delivery van" Bingo! Fooled you! and the cops also! I have run my extension cord and use that to run my appliances on weekends (When not working) and so I am living really cheap and have a 401K with a lot of cash. When I retire, I'll live quite nicely!!
