  • By this logic, they should believe in every single last deity that has ever been worshipped or described, all mythology, the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, leprechauns, fairies, the Invisible Pink Unicorn, the Celestial Teapot, and that I have a pair of divine shoes that mysteriously appear to counsel me in times of great need. But they don't. It has nothing to do with logic or reasoning. It is faith - which, by definition - is belief without evidence or proof (the opposite of logic and reasoning).
  • For one thing, I wouldn't start quoting Richard Dawkins lol. There is actually very little you can prove or disprove in this world, many might fight me on that (mostly college kids that just want to show off the bullshit there professors teach them), but in the end we don't know where we came from, or how we got here, and the only answer we will get is when we are dead. So this debate isn't anything anyone can win, its just a on going cycle that will never end. If we KNEW for a FACT where we came from, then everyone would believe in that one fact. But being that there are so many gaps in all religions and science, no one can really say what anyone should believe or not believe. But I'm just stating my opinion. I'm only 21, so I am still young and have much to experience and learn. But honestly, I'm not a very religous person, but I do have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • whether it exists or not doesnt affect my life, but my relationship with Christ does. i could care less for teapots and monsters in the sky. but i did find some video =, could check it out if you want. dudes kinda boring though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l6tCMspW_Q
  • As a devout Christian, I have to agree with you that this is faulty reasoning. As others have pointed out, by this reasoning, one should believe every religious claim and conspiracy theory that has come down the pike because none of them can be conclusively disproved. As for me, I follow the religion that I do because I believe that I have received divine revelation confirming that it is the correct path. No, I don't claim to have seen or spoken directly with God, but I do believe that I have received revelation from him. You probably don't accept that and that is your right. One should not follow a religion simply because that religion can't be disproved. The inability to disprove something (especially the existence of any given deity) does not prove that it is true. When choosing to follow a religion, one should do so because they truly believe what that religion teaches.
  • Those Christians should study their own religion out further, and find a better argument. It is impossible and illogical to prove the nonexistence of something. I fear the "argument" is not intended as a basis for a belief system, but is instead a crutch to fall on when their own knowledge and powers of debate and logic fail them.
  • Why do people have to bash other rel. If you're not into it fine get your own
  • Good, yet slightly odd question. For me faith is one thing, but imagine there being nothing but us. No celestial being or anything. Before you're born, you're dust and after is the same. That's kinda depressing. About the teapot and monster...well...I would say that the statement you're talking about is different. Christians have more than one reason to believe and only some use that tactic to convert people. It's like comparing salt with sugar. They're similar but there is a difference. For one, religions are an essential part in world history while the others are children's stories. You can't really but them together, but frankly, you do have a good point. As I said, it is an issue of faith and though no one has seen God, the teapot, or the monster more people claim to have a connection with God. The others are stories while the bible has created a religion.
  • There are many examples of people (e.g. George and Marha Washington, Napolean, Nefertiti) organizations, and even civilizations which we cannot prove exist(ed) since they don't live in our midst or exist today. All we can do is determine what/who does or does not exist based on what we believe to be the preponderance of evidence. To that end, I've not heard of any evidence of the existence of your two examples.
  • How dare you blaspheme against the flying spaghetti monster! You are ignorant of the truth my friend. Here, educate yourself with the true gospel! http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-9780812976564-7 +2
