Toss the kitty GENTLY off the bed but with enough distance that it understands it is not wanted (or needed) on the bed. When doing so 'firmly' (Not screaming shrilly) say 'No!' If you want the cat on the bed, then toss it to the foot of the bed - yes toss - throw if you think about it. but not thrown like in for speed and distance to where it would bounce off the wall if it was tossed in that direction. It most likely will try to come back, scoop it up and toss it again saying firmly 'No!'. Cats are trainable and like dogs they respond to voice if you keep it simple and use a tone. If you make it complicated like giving a speech that tells he cat you want it at the foot of the bed the process takes longer. Kittens are like children - meaning they have short attention spans and will, when excited 'break the rules'. You need to learn how to be 'stern' without being abusive, know when the kitten is just overly excited and having fun to when its being purposefully disobedient. Once again - toss does not mean throw - it means scoop the cat up and loft it into the air to where 2-3 feet of distance takes place. The cat should describe a gentle, low arc, feet pointed down to where it lands on its feet. Spray bottles are ideal for distance training - for instance you want to train the cat to stay off the dinning room table and you are in the kitchen - the spray bottle will be 'instant' long range consequences. Trust me if you try to do it by hand and you start to approach the cat it will run - because cats are not stupid, they know when they are doing 'wrong'. The toss works for close up training with 'big' no no things like laying on your face. Another thing you will need too do is spend time with the cat where you want the cat. If you want the cat at the foot of the bed, then you need to spend time down there petting and praising the cat making it aware that the foot of the bed is a 'good' place. If you want the cat to stay on the floor, then you need to get down on the floor with the cat. You can not confuse the issue by sometimes allowing the cat up by your chest on the bed, or by laughing and giggling when you are awake and kitten plays paw the nose while your head is on the pillow. I had my cat trained to the foot of the bed - I am allergic to cat dander (and always inherit cats!). the spousal unit moved in and 'retrained' the cat to sleep at the head of the bed. without being able to agree between ourselves, the cat soon got to be the bossy one, and would do as it pleases. This is to say that not only are you to train the cat and stick with the program, but so too anyone else who lives there. Consistency between beds and people will go along way to make training stick and faster.
