Help answer this question below.

Probably replacing my Sony tube tv soon for plasma or LCD. Screen size guidelines seem huge as 60 inch model is recommended for my 15x15 room. Is it important to follow the guidelines on screen size? My current tube tv has a 27 inch screen.

    basic rule is viewing distance should be 2-3 times the size of the screen, a 60" set needs 120 to 180" of space (10-15 feet) from the front of the set. for a room that size a 50" will fit better and not over fill the space

    The screen size you choose should depend on 1) Budget, 2) How far away you sit when viewing television, 3) personal preference.

    If you sit too close to a large screen, it won't look that great. I would imagine that if you are currently using a 27" set, that you are already within 8 feet or so (not the full 15 feet across the room). If you are within 8 feet, a 40" screen will look great.

    Bigger is not alway better (so she said). Follow the manufacturer's suggestion based on viewing distance. It can made the difference between watching TV and enjoying TV.
