  • At first there is no sensation at all other than the feeling of the force of impact, then you see the effect and the brain can start causing symtoms of shock. The cells around the wound are flooded with blood that contains oxygen, when there is too much oxygen the cells react to the heat (Just as the cells of a cut open apple, the cells in the apple start to burn up and die...the browning of the surface is this reation to too much oxygen) by sending the nervous system signals that they are burning up..(thus the term, inflammation) as the signals get to the brain the brain tells the area affected to feal the pain...at which time the a fire like burning sensation will be felt... Pressure on the area will prevent the area from filling with to much fluid containing oxygen...this will relieve the pain as the cells go back to there quiesent (nutral condition). The symtoms of shock however may vary...the brain may cause you to faint/passout from the shock of seeing the wound...The brain may start to shut down other parts of the body to protect itself from dying. Panic is another symtom that can cause more symtoms or cause you to hurt yourself more.

  • I was a Corporal in 'Nam. I was shot in the leg twice. Believe me. It hurts real bad. At first, you can't think. Then, you think the unthinkable. It feels as if you were stung by a poisonous bug that was 5 feet wide 9 feet tall. It feels like years, when it is only as long as you stay up before you pass out from exhaustion and wake in a hospital.
  • I got shot in the gut by a perp - I didn't feel anything but a bit of a punch. Looking down I saw the red stain spreading across my short and a flow of blood running over my belt onto my pants - I grabbed at the area, but couldn't stop the bleeding - I felt dizzy and leaned back against the wall and slid down and called for help. My shirt, pants, and hands were all red and warm- in the hospital hours later a white hot pain started - but not as bad as when I had kidney stones - then I had pain for a couple weeks...
  • I can imagine very painful, but only if it hits your bone.
