I think it's best to be yourself but control any negative emotions and hold back from being too nice. Keep it in the middle of the road emotionally. If you must be an actress because of the politics of the work place I would say you need to be able to have a full range of emotions dependent on the situation. You need to be sweet, feminine, catty, bitchy, nice, ruthless and whatever else you need to survive and get ahead if that's your desire.

Be nice but stand your ground, don't let yourself be a doormat but don't be the office b*tch either. Be as professional as possible, even though many of your office mates may think they're still in High School.

Neither. Savvy is a good term to describe what you need to be. Being polite gets you a lot of places, but be tough when you need to be, and always be aware of what each type of behavior is most likely to get for you.
