Most experts these days posit that she took poison of some sort, thereby committing suicide. It is unlikely that an asp bite did her in; however, they were probably kept around as one of the many symbols of the dynasty. So they were present at her death, but not likely the cause of her death, which was by necessity needing to be quick and (probably) painless.
She was killed by as asp. She killed herself with it.
She put an asp in her bosom
she was mummified
