    I'm an eighth grader, and as the years go by, the kids shrink (I swear when I was a sixth grader most male eighth graders were as big as my dad, with tattoos and piercings and stuff, and most of us now eighth graders hardly grew at all) but they get worse.
    Some of the eighth graders from before had morals and ambition.
    Yes, all kids are individuals, and not all of them are bad, but in general now they're obsessed with fitting in, picking on 'outsiders', and the opposite sex.
    I see sixth graders making out between classes, some of my classmates talk about who's having sex, who's not, we find cigarettes out where the gym classes play, empty bottles of beer in the bushes, occasionally condoms, and once someone found a few inappropriate pictures of... *ahem* girl on girl porn.
    Most of them don't give a hang about their grades or what's going on in the world, only about fighting with their parents and fitting in. Most of them love to torment "outsiders" who listen to different music than them, follow a different religion, or actually give a crap about learning.

    They also love music, clothes, sports, gossip, the computer, religion (some of them... usually they use it as an excuse to pick on other kids) and making inappropriate jokes.

    I have a step-son that is 15 and he likes playing football, weight lifting, driving as much as we will let him and the girls that live up the street lol. He also likes to work on his snow machines winter is coming and if it is too cold he plays his video games.

    My son is 11 going to be 12 in a couple months. He loves to play football with his step-brother is really big on riding his dirt bike when possible. Plays video games watches pimp my ride and biker build off.

    But i think their most favorite thing to do is make their little sister cry lol

    more than anything kids of that age just like to do 'nothing'. Lounge around, watch tv and hang out with friends. Feeling forced to do 'activities' seams childish.

    Speaking for myself and my friends,
    at 15,

    I think one of my biggest things is DEFINITELY music. Think about it: you are often IDENTIFIED by the music you listen to. "Emo"s, "indie" kids, etc.

    A lot of my friends spend a ton of time on sports.

    And I actually care about politics.
    We're sick of seeing older siblings shipped off to war. We're sick of our friends coming out and realizing their denial of rights. We're sick of having everyone else's rules imposed on us.

    I think I started really caring about religion and spirituality when I was 12ish. Among my friends, that's when some of us started to hate it...and that's when some of us started to find it.

    Sure, I'm concerned about guys, I'm concerned about my social life, and I do worry about how I look,
    but not all of us are obsessed sex and video games. The news is crap.

    If you read the newspapers and watch the news, it seems they like sex, drugs and hanging out looking for abit of trouble. I think that is true to a point. Otherwise, they like games and elctronics, MUSIC, movies, computers of course, and maybe even....AB. :)

    Well my son is 12 he likes girls, skating, playing guitar, video games, trying to fit in and friends. I think at this age they are just trying to be cool and be like all their friends so that no one will make fun of them or pick on them and they have a lot of friends so they can be considered "popular", they are very involved with girls/boys at this time. My son has a half naked chick on his wall (daddy's choice BTW) and he has already had a few "girlfriends", my cousin who is 12 yrs. old also she has had a few different "boyfriends" and they like the whole flirting and thinking about boy stuff, she also is trying to act like she's all that so she can be in the popular crowd. It's very different from when I was in school and it wasn't that long ago I was 12-15!

    I'm 15, and at the moment my biggest intrest is how I can stop the BNP party from getting any more powerful, because my mum has banned me from active campaigning for fear of, I don't know, something or other. I think she might support them, which worries me, but hopefully she won't vote for them. I have to say though, I doubt it is the biggest intrest of most 12-15 year olds

    I believe that "what" children/kids/teens in this age bracket are interested in most depends entirely on who they were raised by where they were raised and who they are as individuals.

    Music, computers, each other, socializing without being ridiculed or rejected, attention from parents without people knowing that they care about it... lol... fitting in, clear skin, sex, hiding their awkwardness, numbing the pain, being loved...

    This is not a logical question, im 15 and i know that. Everyone is different and like to do different things just like you are probuley older and the people in your age group always like different types of things you do, but if you want to get down to it this is when they are most interested in finding out who they are and they all do it in different ways and have different interests throughout the process

    Being 14, I feel overwhelmed. This may be because I am from an Asian family, pressured from all sides to do well in school, but mainly, I'm overwhelmed because I don't know how I'll do for the rest of high school. I'm a bit uncertain as to what I'll do in the future for a job, and the decision is ominously hanging over my head. Even more so, I fear rejection, and more than ever, I enjoy being just a kid, for these are the last of my years as a pure, fun-loving kid, before i enter the real world.

    Kids in this age range like hanging out with and talking with their friends as much as possible. Either in person, by phone, or on instant messaging. Also, the computer is used quite a bit for kids this age range, mainly for computer games. Sports are a huge for me, and I am 15, so I would add that. Guys this age are interested in girls, sex, and all that good stuff. Girls are interested in guys, but care now more about their looks, as in facial features, and body features.

    Well, my friends and I are all geeks, so we love video games to the max. Mostly we like anything that is genuinely fun, usually friends, and being stupid...Personally I love anything technology related, but I have a friend that knows nothing about any of that and simply reads alot....honestly it varies, but mostly its video games, friends, and music ;)

    Development Middle School and Early High School

    Parents are often worried or confused by changes in their teenagers. The following information should help parents understand this phase of development. Each teenager is an individual with a unique personality and special interests, likes and dislikes. However, there are also numerous developmental issues that everyone faces during the adolescent years. The normal feelings and behaviors of the middle school and early high school adolescent are described below.

    Movement Towards Independence

    * Struggle with sense of identity
    * Feeling awkward or strange about one's self and one's body
    * Focus on self, alternating between high expectations and poor self- concept
    * Interests and clothing style influenced by peer group
    * Moodiness
    * Improved ability to use speech to express one's self
    * Realization that parents are not perfect; identification of their faults
    * Less overt affection shown to parents, with occasional rudeness
    * Complaints that parents interfere with independence
    * Tendency to return to childish behavior, particularly when stressed

    Future Interests and Cognitive Changes

    * Mostly interested in present, limited thoughts of future
    * Intellectual interests expand and gain in importance
    * Greater ability to do work (physical, mental, emotional)

    Sexuality

    * Display shyness, blushing, and modesty
    * Girls develop physically sooner than boys
    * Increased interest in the opposite sex
    * Movement toward heterosexuality with fears of homosexuality
    * Concerns regarding physical and sexual attractiveness to others
    * Frequently changing relationships
    * Worries about being normal

    Morals, Values, and Self-Direction

    * Rule and limit testing
    * Capacity for abstract thought
    * Development of ideals and selection of role models
    * More consistent evidence of conscience
    * Experimentation with sex and drugs (cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana)

    Teenagers do vary slightly from the above descriptions, but the feelings and behaviors are, in general, considered normal for each stage of adolescence.
