  • The possibilities are limitless. Bites from fleas, ticks and mosquitos can cause itching and even redness and bleeding. Animals can also be allergic to the bites (saliva) which will cause red, itchy places.
  • Suggestive of contact dermatitis amongst a hundred other things.
  • Instead of letting her suffer, maybe you should take her to the vet. Yeah, that's a brilliant idea.
  • You haven't mentioned what breed or breed type this dog is. Some specific breeds do tend to have skin problems. It could be a wide number of things causing this ranging from food allergies...which while you may be feeding her the same food as you have for sometime, could have BUILT UP in her system. Frequently CORN BASED dog foods can cause skin allergies, as can the useless foods that are semi moist...(high in both fat and sugar!) It could be that she stepped in something outside or inside (cleaning products, lawn products) that started the problem off, could still be contributing to the problem, or the initial behavior has now developed into a HABIT.) It can also be STRESS related. Any changes to the family, home, life of the dog? It can be a reaction to toxins, such as flea/tick poisons, vaccines...which as with foods..might have been non-reactive initially, but have built up so that the dog is NOW experiencing negative symptoms to the stuff. I would start with your vet, to be sure of what it is NOT...some skin buggie. Remember, however, even if your Vet offers to do allergy testing on your dog; such tests CAN BE inconclusive with humans...as well as with animals...the tests can give false reading sometimes and they are expensive. If your Vet says there is no overt problem, I would then start at home with trying different foods. Remember dogs are MEAT eaters. Start reading up on different foods for your dog. ALWAYS read what is IN any food (human or animal) you buy! Check out http://www.doggiebag.com and also I suggest http://www.whole-dog-journal.com THEY BOTH offer some excellent information on Canine diets!
  • Depending on her breed could be Allergies. What kind of food are you feeding her, Usually food allergies are the cause behind there little paws itching. Although it could be ALOT of other things including Mange. Talk with your vet he can advise you of a good food for dogs with allergies. If that doesn't work you should bring your pooch in and let the doc look at it.
  • We had a german pointer hound , vet told us that it was food, skin allergies. We had our dog on monthly steriod shots to solve the problem there are other solutions. Side affects though with steriod shots it can wind the dog up a bit and shorten life span. This dog did live another three years till she had heart failure.
  • My miniature schnauzer has had redness and itching on her belly and paws and was diagnosed with yeast. There are also some dark discolorations on her belly. I changed her diet to EVO dry food and Urban Wolf wet food, and I am treating her with Chinese herbs. The food is low carb and does not encourage yeast growth. There are other treatments for yeast that can be found on the web, however a good quality food is extremely important.
  • It also sounds like Red Mange. Get her to a vet right away. It is difficult to treat, and the more area that needs to be treated, the harder it is to get rid of.
  • Allergy. Try a dog food without gluten.
  • It sounds like you need a trip to the vets.
  • Some dogs do this from nervousness and anxiety. Has there been any major changes in the Dog's routine or surroundings?
  • Take thee to a vet -- delay he not serving the poor suffering animal well. You need a hands on expert, not advice from a bunch of unknowns with no first hand knowledge of your situation. To the vet -- now.
