Sure, let's start with this really dirty book that talks about...

Men getting drunk and lying around the house naked (Genesis 9:21)

Peeping Toms (Song of Solomon 2:9)

One-night stands (Song of Songs 3:1-5)

Sneaking out of your lover's apartment (Ruth 3:14)

Relationship boredom (Proverbs 5:19-23, Song of Solomon 1:5-6)

Sleeping with the household servants (Genesis 16)

Having sex with a hooker if you don't have any money (Genesis 38:17)

Selling your wife to a pimp (Hosea 3)

Having 'fun' with the neighbors while the spouse is away (Genesis 39:11-12, Proverbs 7:19-27)

Tying up your girlfriend with ropes while she's sleeping (Judges 16:8)

    Gay orgies (Genesis 19)

What to do about the "wet spot" (Leviticus 15:17)

Note: all passages cited based on the following book -

Absolutely not. There is nothing morally wrong with porn. If as is often quoted there are abuses within the industry then that is a matter for employment law or criminal prosecution not censorship.

Maybe some people feel that performers are forced into the industry through lack of money etc but this could be claimed of any job. I have had jobs I have not enjoyed and have done "to pay the bills" but I wouldn't class this as abuse. If performers are forced this is again an illegal non-consensual act and should be treated as such as it is in any other industry.

For consensual performers I see no problems, it is not degrading in any way shape or form. We make use of the abilities we have and to make use of an attractive physique is neither more or less noble than using a powerful brain.

The industry should be regulated to protect minors from exploitation and banning the entire industry would result is less control and access to justice for aggrieved performers.

Abusive forms such as child pornography and so forth are and should remain illegal as this is non-consensual. This is again a matter of illegal abuse and does not really have anything to do with the wider porn industry any more than rape has anything to do with consensual adult sexual relations.

It should be age restricted by age of course but what adults choose to do or view in their private time, given the caveats listed above, is entirely up to them and no organisation has the right to interfere.

I would be all for a ban on pornography. I don't know if it could be done, however. At least I wish we could regulate the internet more so that pornographic web sites could be designated as pornographic and therefore easier to keep off of my computer.

IT IS A LIE to think that pornography causes no harm to the individual or to our society. Some of the effects of regular porn consumption:

    1) Decreased sensitivity toward women--showing more aggression, rudeness, and/or less respect (this happens, in part, because people start to see the women in pornography as objects for their own sexual pleasure rather than as human beings who have thoughts, feelings, choices, family relationships, and needs.)
    2) Decreased sensitivity and increased tolerance of sexually graphic material (people who consume porn often desire more graphic material which can lead to depiction of rape, child porn, beatiality, etc.)
    3) Increased risk of believing rape is not a serious crime or that rape victims are to blame for this type of abuse (this happens when people watch rape scenes in pornography and begin to be aroused by violent, sexual acts, rather than being disturbed or repulsed by them.)
    4) Increased risk of being exposed to incorrect information about human sexuality. (This is especially harmful when youth turn to porn to learn about sexuality)
    5) Increased risk of developing unhealthy and unhelpful views about sexuality.
    6) Increased risk of thinking less common sexual practices happen more often than they really do
    7) Increased risk of getting involved in sexual behavior that is risky, unhealthy, or illegal (such as hiring a prostitute)
    8) Increased risk of experiencing difficulties in intimate relationships
    9) Increased risk of becoming aggressive or violent (Sexually violent images have the worst impact on a person's behavior, and nonviolent images have the least impact on aggressive behavior, although they sitll have a negative effect.)
    10) Increased risk of becoming sexually abusive towards others
    11) Decreased desire to marry one day
    12) Decreased desire to have children and raise a family one day
    13) Decreased trust in your boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse
    14) Increased risk of believing long-term relationships are not even realistic
    15) Increased risk of becoming sexually dissatisfied with your future spouse
    16) Increased risk of cheating on your spouse once you're married
    17) Increased risk for separation and divorce once you're married
    18) Increased risk of viewing pomiscuity or casual sex with many people as normal and natural behavior that has little to no consequences.
    19) Increased risk of getting fired from your job (if you are looking at porn at work)
    20) Increased risk of believing there is nothing wrong with being sexually active with someone you have no emotional imvolmement with or commitment to
    21) Increased risk of developing a negative body image
    22) Increased risk of developing sexually compulsive and/or addictive behavior.

    Probably not.

Banning all porn would be an infringement on the freedom of expression. What other forms of expression would then be banned? And when would we lose this freedom altogether?

Also I do not think that you can legislate morality. Within reason, morality has to be a free choice and not imposed upon someone.

I do think all people should totally ignore porn until it goes away as not a profitable enterprise.

Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties.

Catholics believe that pornography offends against chastity because it perverts the intimate giving of spouses to each other.

It does grave injury to the human dignity of all participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others.

no~the types of porn that are illegal are just that and for good reason; but human sexuality is always going to be a curious thing and there's (this is only my opinion) nothing wrong with exploring that sexuality.

No. It should not be banned. Banning things and making them taboo or illegal only increases their appeal. Indifference is the only thing that will kill the industry, so people should stop making such a big deal about it.

    no...

if anyone is so weak that he/she can't watch or read or listen to something without acting it out...then he/she has issues...porn, or metal music, or any form of art, whether someone likes it or not, is not the problem...

so if anyone's answer is "yes", then enlighten me, what other forms of art are going to 'hurt' me or you...because as an artist, i know that i haven't hurt anyone with my art, no matter how offensive it might be to certain individuals...the problem isn't my means of expression...it's those individuals' perception of it...

therefore, the problem is within, not on the outside (i.e., music, art, etc.)...

Yes! It is a roach to our home and thus should be exterminated. It does not bring any lasting happiness, just deviant temporary fulfillment. It has desensitized our moral compass, destroyed families, made us slave to masturbation, alienated our ability to mend healthy relationships, and it indeed seeks to destroy far beyond what many deem to be self-fulfilling safe sex.

    Not ALL porn. But some.
    .
First let me say that I am a lifelong fan of porn. I always thought it was manna from heaven, really. When it came to pornography, I took the Larry Flint approach...it's all Free Expression protected by the constitution as long as making it didn't break any laws.
    .
I had to change my mind when I saw the facts. Now, understand that the "facts" I am talking about come from a study commissioned by the Reagan administration in the 80's, so it may be outdated, and it is clear that Reagan had certain agendas that he would do anything to fulfill....BUT, the study seems sound to me, so here goes:

In the study Porn was grouped into 3 categories,
1-Violent (where men are clearly violating women)
2-Domineering (where men are clearly dominating women)
3-Neutral (where no party is dominant)
(the vast majority of violent porn or porn depicting domination was male suppressing female, so keep that in mind for the results that females violating males is not a strong theme in porn at this time) The 2nd kind represented about 80% of randomly selected porn, with the other 2 representing about 10% each.

Male participants were asked a series of questions, and some of the questions had to do with attitudes toward women:
    a) if a woman is raped, how much responsibility does she bear
    b) is it ever ok to use physical force against a woman
    etc, etc

The respondents were asked these questions BEFORE viewing any porn to establish a baseline. Then they were shown porn from one of the three cetegories. They were then asked a similar series of questions.

Without getting into the numbers, suffice it to say that the men who viewed violent porn were WAY more likely to condone violence against women shortly after viewing it. The men who were given porn with dominating themes were somewhat more likely to condone the use of physical force or violence toward females, and the men who were given the "neutral" porn had no measurable change.

The study, I do not believe, tested the duration of the effects, but I would assume that prolonged exposure leads to pronounced effects.

If this information is accurate, then porn ACTUALLY makes the world a staistically more dangerous place for women, LITERALLY.

Our society should aim to provide a feeling of security for fellow humans.

Therefore, I have to say that, given the facts above (if they are indeed accurate) any porn that depicts women as being subjugated should be banned or controlled, at least until our response to that type of pornography is better understood. Our violent reactions may be culturally driven, but they are real, nevertheless.

Believe me, I hate to say it, but when my heart conflicts with the facts I have to go with the facts.

No -for the same reason that Prohibition against alcohol was a bad idea. For rhose who can use it responsibly, there shouldn't be any problem. Just a bit of fun once in a while, to satisfy the natural voyeuistic instincts.

And when you start talking about banning porn (or anything else), you have to consider the right to free speech...but is porn covered under that right? The answer to that question would have long-reaching consequences.

Of course pornography should be banned. Think about what porn is. Looking at a stranger's body for self-gratification. Apparently the people who use porn can't find a spouse. It may be obvious why they can't, if they are spending their time fantasizing about someone in a magazine or online, they are not out meeting 'real' people. If these people stopped using porn and spent that time socializing, they would meet people, marry, and not need porn.
It seems to be a vicious circle, porn stops you from meeting people, so you need porn because you aren't married because you aren't meeting people, because you are spending your time looking at porn...

What's it got to do with christianity anyways? I mean your popes have sex with boys - i think that should be prevented not porn you saddo! Porn teaches people more than it entertains. Teenagers need it most as well as oldies in there 60's who have wives that are 'useless' to them.

So no porn should not be banned - christianity should be a desicion not forced onto people you pricks!!
