You didn't say what carb you had. You say carb is "set perfect", does this include the correct size main jet for your application? How large a carb are you using? If it is bigger than 650 cfm, it is too much carb for a basically stock small block. I know lots of guys who plop an 850 double pumper on a small block and wonder why it's rich. When I built my sons street rod, (not a Chevy, but similar sized engine), it was a Mopar 360 v-8 with the Edelbrock Performer intake, and matching cam. We ported and polished the heads and manifold, and were using the Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. This was more than enough carb for a street driven rod.

the mixture screws on the carb are too rich and it could be too big of a carb for the engine back each of the screws up one at a time til it almost dies when it does this turn the screws opposite two full times and u could try getting a higher heat spark plug like denso something with more electrodes on it three or four
