  • Sugar in Brazil is used in enthanol in that country almost exclusively.I don't know how much sugar is grown but the changing of the use of it could beneficial in 2 ways.First sugar is a cheap filler for processed foods and is found in very large amounts in almost all foods. This is the cause of people being overweight, and other serious health matters. The sugar lobby makes sure that excessive amount of sugar is used in foods.Take the sugar out of the food and use it to create alternative fuels. There would be less dependence on oil and people would be more healthy.
  • My understanding is that Brazil is closer to the equator, so it gets more solar energy, and thus it can grow much more sugar cane than we can up here. On top of that, the population density of USA is significantly higher (people per square mile) than Brazil, so they have more room down there to fuel their lives, while we have (perhaps selfishly) overgrown our resource limitations in USA. ps - You get much more energy out of sugar cane than you do out of corn or soybeans.
