Why do some driver's licenses say that the person is an organ donor? Is there any benefits somebody gets if his license says that?

I don't think being an organ donor gets you any tangible benefits, but it alerts the EMTs and the hospital - should you be in a serious accident - to harvest your organs immediately for possible re-use.
This is more expedient than waiting around hours and hours until the next of kin make such a decision and sign the proper forms, by which time the organs could be rendered useless.

Okay, that makes sense. I check IDs all the time and I see it. I wondered why it said that.

Exactly Wide Awake...

It just makes the medics aware that you wish to donate certain organs, or not, should you be in a life threatening situation. If you don't do this and would like to be a donor, by the time they get approval from family, it might be too late for the organs to be useable.

I have it on my licence.

My brother was an EMT. That's how I heard about this originally.

I am an organ donor.

Benefits include:

Knowing that if I should ever be in a situation where I am going to die anyway--my organs will used to give life and/or improve life for others.

Realizing that even in death I can do something very loving for other people.

One live touches so many others...for every life that is saved/improved from mine, all the people who love that person also benefit from my life--including all the people each of those lives will touch in the future.

Plus, I have the added benefit of knowing that none of my friends will douse me with BBQ sauce and eat me. :P http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/831187
