Yes I have found church records to be very interesting. I went to an old country church in rural Iowa where I was shown the record books containing births, baptismals, marriages, and deaths. The book started with 1860 events. Very interesting. The records for 2 churches were in German and another in Latin. Church records often provide the names of the parents, often with the maiden name of the mother.
