  • Pension records indicate where a person served, what the physical description was (brown hair, slight of build, green eyes, 5'-8" tall, 165 #). Some military info also has a picture of the individual. I believe the WWI draft registration forms have photos, but I cannot remember for sure. Pension records will often list a surviving spouse. These records are available from the National Archives in Washington, DC as well as on line. If you should happen to have a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in your area that has a Family History Center, I would suggest giving them a call so you know their hours of operation. They generally have accfess to several 'subscription' sites. They are also very helpful should you need guidance. The History Center generally has books, microfilms, and microfisch. If there is something on film or fisch that you would like to look at they can order it for you but there is a minimal charge. Should you use their computers and print something out, again there is a minimal charge. Nothing is free these days.
