You got a tounge/lip piercing? Definitley use the listerine for about 3-5 days. In short, trust the people at the shop.

i was told differently. they say you're not supposed to use any antiseptic.

yup yup yup i got mine done 2 weks ago nd they said use listerine or salt water untill its healed and definatly after smoking.

I got mine pierced last week and I used a diluted listerine and my tongue developed a whitish coating. The piercer said this is because the alcohol in the mouthwash was drying out my tongue and suggested alcohol free mouthwash and sea-salt mixtures instead. Also look for something called "glyoxide" you put a few drops on the piercing twice a day and it bubbles up to get rid of any bacteria or debri that has gotten into the piercing. So far mine is healing very well and my tongue has turned back to it's old color!

you shouldn't use listerine because it has a high amount of alcohol in it and your after care guide should state that you should be avoiding alcoholic beverages while it's healing. the aftercare rinse that we recommend is an oral rinse that is alcohol free like tech 2000

they probably also told you not to smoke, that's really bad for a fresh piercing dilute your listerine half and half with water and use it any time you put anything in your mouth that isn't water

Trust the people at the shop. Thy're trained professionals and know what their talking about. My friend had several piercing and when he used the listerine things seemed to heal much better then if he used something else. Listerine is good for this because it is in effect an antseptic, but not a harsh one. And the peircing is a wound in your mouth so most other things like alcholo can't be used. We use it to treat wounds on the horses because they seem to take it better then alcholo and things heal faster with less infection.
