  • There is no specific consequence or punishment for Mormons who don't always wear their Garments. Only those who have received Temple Ordainances are permitted to wear garments. Receiving a Temple recommend is a complicated process you must do the following: Obey the Word of Wisdom, Pray, have an undying faith and Love for our Father in Heaven and His son Jesus Christ, pay Tithing, read Scriptures, attend meetings and so forth (not neccessarily in that order). Garments are worn after a member goes through the temple and can be taken off for a number of reasons; laundry purposes, swimming, bathing and of course for intimate reasons with ones husband or wife. Garments are worn for strength and for protection of the body of which they cover. Although there is no punishment for removing Garments, taking them off because you don't "feel" like wearing them is thought to be wrong. Sacred Garments must always be completely covered by clothing long enough to conceal them. Letting Garments show or wearing items over them so you can tuck them in, to wear shorter shorts and/or sleeveless shirts is also thought of to be wrong.
  • In order to participate in service sin the temples, a member of the Church must be issued a temple recommend. In order to be issued a temple recommend, s./he must have an interview with local ward/branch and stake/district leaders. In the interview, s/he will be asked several question to determine worthiness of entering the questions. One of the questions asked is whether the individual wears his/her garments night and day. While I have never known anyone who had a temple recommend denied for not wearing the garment, I suppose it is theoretically possible that the temple recommend could be denied if the garment is not worn.
