  • The most likely problem is the transfer case shift motor which is located on the backside of the transfer case. Instructions on how to fix it (and many other Explorer problems) can be found at http://www.explorerforum.com
  • you have to be in N and press down on the brake pedal while you push the 4x4 Low button.
  • 4x4 actuator located on the transmission is bad. call a local auto parts store for more info.
