Not too young, but yes. I suggest starting swim lessons after crawling has started and before walking is stumble free, while they are still learning basic motion, balance, posture, hand/eye coordination, and early self awareness ... or before the second birthday if you must have an age.

It is quite possible and I think a very intelligent idea, particularly for people who have pools or live near water (ponds, lakes, etc). I agree with Takei's assessment as to the indicators of when it might be most appropriate to begin.

Yes, I've seen it done. They take to it like fish in water as maybe they still remember what it was like in the womb. But it does take careful teaching and good safety.

As soon as the child has a conscious sense of the world enough to understand the experience and not be afraid of it. Nothing cuter than swimming classes compromised of a bunch of 3 year olds :)

I tried that with my youngest. He must have gotten a lung full of water because he didn't like to go in again. Took him years to learn to swim. He sunburned real easy also, so he stayed away from outside pools also.

Yes, it is possible. Babies are born knowing how to swim just like other mammals. They just don't have the body control to come up for air, so in that respect they can't swim, but they easily go through the motions of swimming in the water.

Yes definitely. Flippers Swim Babes(http://www.swimbabes.co.uk/) run baby swimming classes across Yorkshire and Derbyshire. We are running Baby swim classes suitable for babies from 1 month to 18 months of age
