  • You can do anything you want - until you get caught doing it. What do I mean? Heaven forbid: IF you change the electric without getting the proper permit or "going through the channels" getting the work inspected and approved AND there is a fire in your property caused by the unapproved electrical work, chances are your homeowner's insurance won't pay or they will dispute the claim. Thinking about your Q, don't you REALLY think it's penny wise and pound foolish to do what you're thinking about? Personally, I would do what I KNOW HAS to be done! "Better safe than sorry." • You can do that in most states. To find out all you have to do is call the L&I department of you local government. Now, if this is something you have not done before it would be a dumb idea to do this. People have died doing this before. You could start a fire weeks later and kill other in you familly. L&I is there for your safety. For this job you need a pro. Bill Lutz Generation 3 Electric, Inc. http://generation3electric.com http://electrician-in-philadelphia.blogspot.com/
