Through advances in technology, today's 4 cylinder engines are manufactured out of higher quality metal alloys, to much closer tolerances than those older engines, enabling modern engines to operate at thousands of rpm more than their early counterparts, with much less mechanical noise.

Its all got to do with with piston size and engine design. Model T' engines were really rough combustion engines, without much refined technical knowledge. it worked and that's all the people cared about. it was new and took them from point a to point b, without having to look at a horse's rear end. Today's 4 cylinder engines have been refined over and over again, with new technology and computer assistance. this technology did not exist in the days of the Model T. The Model T engine was basic and rough. crude would be a better name. but, that is history. everything has a beginning. Engine refinement, came later.
