All it takes is a spring based scale and an object of known weight. A spring based scale measures the action of a force acting on a mass. Most of the time, that force is gravity. However, they will measure the affect of any force on the object. By comparing the change in the objects weight from what it is at rest to that which it has as a result of the force, we can then calculate the number of g-forces that were exerted.
