I believe they would hide it. I think they would do it to try to "protect us" and prevent panic. If the whole thing was ending, I don't think I would want to know. Would you?

If there was no hope of survival at all, then I think they would keep it from us. What would be the point? All it would cause is mass panic and the collapse of civilization in its final hours. However, something that big I don't think would stay hidden for long. Somebody would blab to the wrong person and we would find out anyway.

I would want to know but I don't think the government would tell us. The only way the would tell us if they thought we might be able to survive so we could brace for impact.

They would pass a end of the world spending package, followed by an end of the world tax.then they would tell us that they are about to balance the budget and pay of the national debt.

The government policy would be to try to keep it from us, but there is always a news leak so it wouldn't work.
